Milos island was the 4th destination of Save a Greek Stray (SGS) team that implements the program “with an endless love for strays” and aims to the animal awareness. It includes a primary school program and a neuter, vaccination, and microchip program for stray animals jointly with VETs and volunteers.
Since 2018 SGS has operated this program in 3 more cities, Municipality of Western Achaia and Municipality of Eastern Mani and Municipality of Tripoli and it is expected to continue such actions in many other towns too.
Since the beginning of these actions we have achieved to brief more than 4000 students and neuter more than 400 female stray animals. Aiming a better “today” for the street animals, their solitude, improvement of their way of living and at the same time the public consciousness raising, 194 stray cats have been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. This time was special for us because it was our first action for cats.
Unfortunately, due to SARS-CoV-2 we did not have the chance to run our educational program.
Mr. Theodoros Bablenis, Veterinarian, mentioned that: “The stray cat situation might not be so obvious as the stray dog problem, it is there though and the solution is inextricable to humans.”
In this action we were accompanied by Rise TV, and also our Vets Christos Ktenas, Theodoros Bablenis, Amanda Pilissa, who neutered, vaccinated and microchipped the cats at no charge.
Milos’s mayor Mr. Manolis Mikelis stated: “ Milso has a big stray population. With the help of Save a Greek Stray we achieved to neuter 194 cats. We would like to deeply thank Mrs. Erietta Kourkoulou who was there, by our side in this difficult situation that our island is facing.”
