Aiming a better “today” for the street animals, Save a Greek Stray (SGS) team implements the program “with an endless love for strays” and aims to the animal awareness. Spotting the intense stray problem in the countryside SGS decided that it was imperative to take an action. The program includes raising awareness, spaying, vaccinations and microchipping animals, with the help of volunteers and VETs.
Patmos island was the 5th destination of this awareness and sensitization program. 209 stray cats and 17 stray dogs have been spayed, vaccinated, microchip between 1st - 3rd October.
As we stated : “Unfortunately, we were not able, once again, to implement our school program due to Covid-19. There was something special about this action. This time the appeal did not come from a citizen or the municipality, but from Dr. Kontrafouris Mihalis, Patmos’s VET, who acknowledges the stray problem on the island and he wanted to find a solution. This confrontation gives us hope, while it is understood that the specific action wouldn’t take place against local VETs, but the animals that we take care of in our actions are strays, and they would never be able to get a VETs’ medical assistance” .
Since 2018 SGS has taken action in four cities, Municipality of Kato Achaia, Municipality of Eastern Mani, Municipality of Tripoli, Milos Island and it is willing to continue these action in many other places of the country. Since the beginning of the program over 4000 students were briefed and more than 600 female strays were spayed.
SGSs’ fellow travel companion in this trip were RISE TV and our vets Christos Ktenas, Theodoros Bablenis and Marilou Paschalinopoulou. Our vets spayed, vaccinated, microchip these animals pro bono.
